Welcome!
This wiki is a collaborative space for the main developers of FGA games to share ideas and plan future initiatives.
<@Talad>
I am thinking to an FGA tournament since some time, players will have to collect score from the 5 games and we will have a final ranking including all scores, electing an FGA champion of the year
We may have some prizes (virtual) as well!!
Do you have a multiplayer mode? :
We have two modes for network games: one of the players hosts the game or there can be a headless server which everyone connects to. Both is the case for internet or
LAN games.
The only central server we have is the masterserver which only lists available gameservers, nothing else.
http://master.megaglest.org is basically what it does.

How to record results in the tournament? :
We do calculate a per player score. This score does not take into account several factors which can be key to winning a game, so it's a little off currently, but it's a start.
Scores are reported by the end of a game on a game statistics screen to all participating players, and can be written to standard output if the game took place on a headless server.
Neither servers or clients do currently report results to a central location. Player names are not unique and there is no player registration nor any unique keys. This may change once we made a plan on how to do this properly and have the resources to implement it. Both player communities and development team may need to grow more to make it worthwhile, though.
What is possible already is that all players participating in a game could certify each others' result by the end of the game by posting their results online (or somewhere else where it can be reviewed by whoever will review it). However, it's quite easy to miss the stats screen, and it's not exactly possible to verify that the player you are playing with is the one who usually uses this nickname.
Do you have a way to reward the winners? :
No, not really, Nothing monetary for sure. It would be possible to post player rankings online and link to them from the website and / or forums, though.

We have multiple ways, it can be money (virtual) in game, can be special trophies items engraved with the result, can be special items players can use in the game.

Do you have a multiplayer mode? : Yes
How will the tournament look like in your game? : Round Robin where each player plays against each other, then using those results to place into a bracket structure. then its a traditional tournament with quarters, semis and finals.
How to record results in the tournament? :
We tend to use the forum to record results in a tournament; players will post a replay of the game and the result… that way its open and results can be verified by both parties.
Do you have a way to reward the winners? :
We don't, mostly because we're trying not to allow cash prizes onto our server.
Do you have a multiplayer mode? :
Yes, we have, in fact that's what Xonotic is all about though we have single player too. We have dedicated servers all around the world (ok, I lie here, mostly in the EU, RU, US and AU, and iirc there's a server in Japan too) and any player can create non dedicated ones too from their client.
How will the tournament look like in your game? :
Xonotic has 16 game modes ranging from classic free for all deathmatch to pure fun soccer or basketball mode, from parkour style racing to last man standing, 1v1 arena, capture the flag etc. etc. etc. All gamemodes are competitive in style, so we could organise any of them. However further experiences show that organising a team related tourney is very hard, and even a 1v1 tourney can be long and can consume tons of free time both players and organisers alike (it can last numorous MONTHS and take hours per day).
The safest bet would be a massive last man standing or free for all deathmatch event on multiple maps.
How to record results in the tournament? :
There's a built in demo recording, that can be rendered into Youtube friendly ogv files using the built-in video capturer. We can also force clients to take a screenshot of the scoreboard on match end. Lastly but not least, we have stats.xonotic.org, online statistics and rank page.
Do you have a way to reward the winners? :
This is the only question I can't and therefore won't answer right now. We don't have any special funds or like to be spent on tourney rewards. The best we can do probably is to put the winner's and all participants' nickname on our main site, and spread the news of their achievement on different social platforms like FaceBook, twitter, google+ and desura.
I highly doubt we can offer any kind of material rewards for the winners.
